We stopped for a relatively long period of time. “Stop” doesn’t mean stop working but rather take a time to look back and reflect on all the things we did and are doing, from another perspective.

In those days, we realized that “right” and “wrong” didn’t lie in others’ interpretations. It lies in our own beliefs. From then, we started working in a different way, concerning ourself with other matters, enjoying ourself with other enjoyments.

One of the enjoyments comes from simplicity. Like the way we breathe, look up in the sky where the clouds are drifting steadily. It’s like keeping everything in life with a steady pacing. Happy living with normality.

We started the change with a couple small projects for some of our closed friends. That’s how 430 Pit Stop was born.

Located in a small multi-complex of an office, a café, a shop and a technical zone, 430 Pit Stop is a motorcycle repair shop specialized in maintenance and upgrading. The toughest requirement is to make a 10m2 space convenient for 3 people, at the same time, to comfortably work on a motorbike from 125cc to 1300cc, which can easily weight to over 300kg.

All the technical requirements were overflowing many pages, tools and equipment were precisely calculated and custom-built or ordered from aboard. The process was entirely enclosed. We don’t have any space to waste.

However, 430 Pit Stop needs to blend in with other existed complexes around it, which are offices, a shop and a café. We didn’t want to force a mechanical space into this multi-complex nor there was ever a definition on “How a mechanical space should be”. And “definitions” are from human anyway.

Besides, the space before renovation was an open yard and there was an old grape vine, which made our number one decision is not to disturb the development of the vine, even if we had to thatch a new roof.

The solution is an open glass roof system and an wooden frame which later on would be a trellis for the old grape vine. The gap between the roof and the frame was calculated so that the vine can grow without the endothermic reactions by the glass. And the room is clear for natural ventilation purposes.

The old vine was moved to the new trellis branch by branch by hands. So by the time the project was done, there was hardly any harm to it. Until today, the vine is still growing and become the “sun blocker”, providing shade for the whole space underneath.

80% of the material used for430 Pit Stop was re-used from other projects of ours. We split wooden pallet, burn the surface before cover it with protection paint. The tiles for the floor were re-used from waste export tiles. The glasses are from a construction nearby. Toles for the walls were practically free from a waste and recycling yard. No painting, all materials were used with its original surfaces, colors and feelings.

We didn’t create a “green” construction from straight out of books definitions. Instead, we challenge ourself with our limited resource of materials, mainly are waste/used materials from other constructions. A project doesn’t need to be “green”, we just want to limit exploiting in construction and to create a naturally homy feel. Natural doesn’t always have to be full of trees. It just need to be simply harmonized.

Our friends at 430 Pit Stop said they don’t want to create a typical image of a motorcycle enthusiast, who looks so bulky, covered themselves with grease etc. Instead, they want to be dreamers, who are really good at what they do.

Some people dream of wealth, some happiness. Yet some only dream of the sun, the wind, the youth and a never ending road.

At the moment, “right” and “wrong” doesn’t even matter anymore. We just feel it with our heart.
